Devereux California is part of the largest nonprofit provider of behavioral health care services in the country, with 6,000 staff supporting 15,000 children and adults nationwide. In Santa Barbara County, Devereux provides services to 75 adults in residential and day programs in a campus setting and/or in their own homes and apartments through Supported Living Services.
What makes your company unique?
It was established by Helena T. Devereux, pioneer in Special Education, in 1912 in Pennsylvania and in 1945 in Santa Barbara, her first program outside of PA, so it has an amazing legacy of organizational and fiscal strength. Miss Devereux's philosophy of "Every Individual is a Program" has not changed, only morphed into "Person-Centered Planning" and assurance that "CHOICE" by the Individual is Devereux's primary goal.
What else might people want to know about your business?
Devereux has an on-campus Greenhouse as part of its pre-vocational Adult Day Program, where individuals nurture a wide variety of plants which they sell at the Thursday and Sunday Farmer's Markets at Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta. The Greenhouse crew also volunteers, picking non-native plant species at Coal Oil Point Preserve. While learning skills they are productive and give back to the community!
